IDAHOBIT Night
About the Campaign
I wear a rainbow ribbon.
It means respect to me.
It means acceptance to me.
It means support to me.
It means belonging to me.
Wearing a rainbow ribbon represents these values. Especially in the current political and social climate, it is extremely important to show that these values matter to all of us — queer people and their allies alike.
Because the world is a better place when we treat each other kindly.
The World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the list of diseases in 1990. Since then, every year on 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia and Transphobia — IDAHOBIT — has been observed. It is a day when all of us can come together to show support for the values of openness, respect and diversity. A day when each of us can make a small gesture with great meaning.
The rainbow ribbon was inspired by our colleagues from the Slovak queer organization Saplinq o.z. The campaign first took place in May 2022, when eight non-governmental initiatives joined forces to fight prejudice and hatred against LGBTQ+ people in Slovakia. You can support our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters in Slovakia by purchasing the Slovak rainbow ribbon at www.duhovastuzka.sk
.
The rainbow ribbon is a Czech-made product from the family company Centroflor in Velký Šenov. They weave, cut and tie the ribbon into individual ribbons themselves. We thank the team at Saplinq for generously sharing the idea of the Rainbow Ribbon with us.
